Who Is This Guy Anyway?

I'm Alec LaLonde, your esteemed weblog author. I'm old and a Freelance Web Developer based in Salt Lake City, UT.

Me
Rowing in Cataract Canyon, Canyonlands National Park, UT

I'm from Northern New York, about 10 miles southeast of Lowville, and grew up playing in the woods with my brother. Whether it was soccer, corkball, basketball, cross-country skiing, sledding, or just building treehouses we spent a lot of time having fun outside. This hasn't really changed, except my activities have "graduated" to skiing, climbing, and hiking, in Utah's Wasatch Range and all over the western US.

I attended the Rochester Institute of Technology for my undergraduate degree in Computer Science. The highlight of my undergrad years, was, however, the semester in Osnabrück, Germany my senior year. It really stoked my love of travel that continues to this day. After school I moved out to Salt Lake City, spent three years at Tomax working as a Software Engineer, then struck out on my own as an independent Web Developer in Summer 2010. Nowadays you can find me building custom websites out of my home office, scaling the cliffs of Little Cottonwood Canyon, or rowing a raft on one of the majestic rivers of the West.

This blog originated as a means of keeping in touch with friends and family during my time abroad in college. However, it's persisted over the years, and still serves as the preferred means of telling my tales of travel, adventure, and occasional debauchery (sometimes all combined). Throw in some commentary above the software industry and a good ol' rant here and there, and that about sums it up.

A blog isn't a blog without comments, so don't be afraid to contribute. Or, just get in touch with me at my Gmail address (alec.lalonde). Enjoy!
